Getting a good swing video
Where to put the phone
Down the line: behind you, on the target line, far enough back that the club stays in frame at the top of the backswing. Tilt it up a little so the ball's flight is in shot. Roughly eight to ten feet is usually right.
The countdown
There is no shutter button, on purpose. Tap Record Swing, put the phone down, walk to the ball, and the countdown gets you there. Recording ends by itself.
Why the analysis says it could not judge something
Camera angle decides what is knowable. Filming face-on shows posture, weight and rotation but says nothing useful about club path; down the line shows plane and path but is poor for weight transfer. When Golf Sparks cannot see something it says so rather than guessing — that is why a fault can come back as "could not be judged from this angle."
Common problems
The analysis says the clip is too big
There is a 20 MB ceiling on a clip sent for analysis. Trim the swing down first — mark the impact frame on the round summary and the clip is cut to the part that matters, which is both smaller and a better analysis.
Sign-in fails
Analysis requires being signed in, because that is how your usage is counted. If sign-in fails repeatedly, check that you are online and try again; if it persists, email us with the account you are using.
My rounds disappeared after reinstalling
Golf Sparks stores everything on your device and there is no cloud backup, so deleting the app deletes your rounds, videos and analyses. This is the trade-off for your swing videos never leaving your phone. If that is the wrong trade for you, tell us — it is a decision, not a limitation.
The camera preview is black
Check that Golf Sparks has camera access in your phone's settings, and that no other app is holding the camera. Force-quitting and reopening resolves it in most cases.
Privacy and your data
Short version: your golf data stays on your phone, and swing videos are only ever sent anywhere when you tap Analyse. The privacy policy has the full detail, including how to request deletion of your account.
